One Ingredient Making You Fat, High Fructose Corn Syrup

The latest, and pathetic, high fructose corn syrup commercials show a happy, wholesome family stating in true Americana fashion how this shit is safe for you. Here’s a snippet from the exact commercial:

“Like any parent I have questions about the food my daughter eats–-like high fructose corn syrup. So I started looking for answers from medical and nutrition experts, and what I discovered whether it’s corn sugar or cane sugar your body can’t tell the difference. Sugar is sugar. Knowing that makes me feel better about what she eats and that’s one less thing to worry about.”

How do these people live with themselves? (I’m referring to the disgusting corn industry here, not the actors of course)

Seriously, this stuff is killing Americans via higher and higher obesity rates and making you fat. The problem is, that it’s in everything. Before I go making you crazy and you find out that almost everything you buy has high fructose corn syrup in it, I’m here to show you some reasons why High Fructose Corn Syrup Is Sabotaging Your Weight Loss Efforts AND Making You Sick.

The reason high fructose corn syrup is even being used is strictly for profit. As a super cheap sweetener, it’s added to thousands of food items to make things taste better at a ridiculously low cost and many of us consume some many things with HFCS on a daily basis.

According to Jillian Michaels, here’s what it does for us: destroys our bodies and our metabolism.

Rats who were given high fructose corn syrup in their diets gained significantly more weight than their HFCS free buddies. The HFCS free buddies instead ate water sweetened with table sugar.

What were the results? I’m glad you asked! The HFCS rats:

    • Showed abnormal weight gain AND much larger spikes in circulating triglycerides. These fancy words simply mean that your body is unable to signal to your brain that it’s full.

 

  • Significant fat specifically around the belly and mid-section

And this doesn’t just happen in rats. We are seeing it on every day, average people like you and me.

Ever Wonder Why You’re Starving All Day?

I hate to break it to you, but it’s the high fructose corn syrup. The fructose and glucose in HFCS are separated in the production process and the fructose ends up going directly to your liver. This is not how regular sugar is processed.

What ends up happening is we end up turning our livers into fatty livers. Fatty livers lead to diabetes, cancer, obesity and an overall unhealthy society.

Another direct problem with this crap (I should really be saying poison here) is it makes you hungry ALL DAY. Compared to regular sugar, women who ate HFCS had higher ghrelin levels (the hunger hormone that tells your body you’re full) throughout the day, night and even through the next day. I.e. YOU’RE HUNGRY ALL DAY!

What Should I Do?

Avoid it like the plague. Start checking labels. Even in your drinks, and I’m not only talking about soda here. Check the labels on your favorite juices, teas, and even your beloved Starbuck’s or Dunkin Donuts coffees and teas.

Think about it, if you start your day with a creamer or sweetened coffee, you’re setting yourself up to be hungry all day long. Coffee can sometimes suppress your appetite, but if you add in the HFCS you’re in for an epic battle where the all day hunger affair always wins.

Some companies are starting to adapt and advertise that they are high fructose free. Support those brands and watch your health improve and your waistline start to slim down.
