Kevin’s Natural Foods Review: Are These Easy Meals Worth It?

This post is not sponsored. I buy Kevin’s products with my own money and have been eating them for years.

There’s a trend on social media called “lazy girl dinners” and “girl dinners.”

They can range from snack plates that resemble adult Lunchables to five-minute meals you throw together when you absolutely do not feel like cooking.

And honestly? I’m all for both.

I love throwing together a quick lunch with turkey slices, cheese, crackers, and veggies. I also have a few ridiculously easy Crock-Pot recipes that my family loves.

But when I think about the ultimate lazy dinner—the meal I keep on hand specifically for nights when I don’t know what to make, don’t feel like cooking, or am this close to ordering takeout—something completely different comes to mind:

Kevin’s Natural Foods.

I’ve been buying Kevin’s meals for years, and they’ve become one of my favorite shortcuts for getting a high-protein meal on the table in less than 10 minutes.

In this article, I’m going to dive into a few things:

  1. What are Kevin’s meals?
  2. Are Kevin’s meals actually healthy?
  3. Which flavors are the best?
  4. And are they worth buying?

Here’s my honest Kevin’s Natural Foods review after eating a LOT of them.

What Is Kevin’s Natural Foods?

Kevin’s Natural Foods makes refrigerated and frozen meals, entrées, sauces, sides, and other convenience foods designed around what the company calls “clean eating.”

Their products are gluten-free, soy-free, and made without refined sugar. Many of their products are also Paleo- and/or Keto-certified, and their prepared meat entrées use meat raised without antibiotics.

But those labels aren’t the only reasons I buy them.

For me, Kevin’s checks three much more practical boxes:

They’re convenient, they’re high in protein, and they actually taste good.

Take some of their refrigerated chicken entrées. Depending on the flavor, a 5-ounce serving can give you around 20 grams of protein for roughly 150–180 calories.

That makes them incredibly easy to work into a meal—especially if you’re tracking calories or macros.

And as someone who naturally gravitates toward fattier cuts of meat because, well, they taste better, Kevin’s has also helped me eat more lean protein like chicken breast without feeling like I’m choking down another sad, dry piece of chicken.

The sauce does the heavy lifting.

Are Kevin’s Natural Foods Meals Healthy?

“Healthy” is subjective, and I don’t think a food needs a Paleo or Keto label to earn a place in your diet.

But nutritionally, there are several things I like about Kevin’s.

Many of the refrigerated entrées provide around 20 grams of protein per serving, use relatively simple ingredient lists, and are made without refined sugar. Kevin’s products are also gluten- and soy-free, and many are Paleo- or Keto-certified.

That said, they’re still packaged foods—and I wouldn’t automatically call every Kevin’s product low-sodium or assume every product has identical nutrition.

The nutrition varies quite a bit by flavor and product.

For example, some of the refrigerated chicken and beef entrées I’ve bought land around 150–190 calories and 20–21 grams of protein per 5-ounce serving, but the sodium, carbohydrates, fat, and added sugar can vary depending on the sauce.

So, as always, check the label of the specific one you’re buying.

For me, the biggest nutritional benefit is simply this:

Kevin’s makes it ridiculously easy to build a balanced, protein-forward meal at home when the alternative might have been takeout.

And that matters.

Why I Keep Kevin’s Meals in My Fridge

The convenience alone is enough for me to keep buying them.

The refrigerated entrées use fully cooked sous-vide meat, so there’s very little actual cooking involved.

You drain the liquid from the meat, heat it in a skillet, add the sauce, and simmer everything together.

That’s basically it.

I’ll usually pair ours with something equally easy, like microwavable brown rice and steamed broccoli or green beans.

Protein. Carb. Veggie.

Dinner. Done.

And I can have the whole thing on the table in less than 10 minutes.

Since I’m currently tracking my macros, there’s another major benefit: I know exactly what I’m eating.

Anyone who has ever attempted to accurately log restaurant takeout knows how much of a guessing game that can be. With Kevin’s, I can weigh out my portion, scan the nutrition information, add my rice and veggies, and move on with my life.

That combination of convenience and predictability is why I consider Kevin’s one of my ultimate lazy-girl dinners.

I try to keep at least one entrée in the fridge, microwavable rice in the pantry, and a frozen vegetable on hand.

Then even on nights when the fridge looks empty and I have zero desire to cook, I’m not actually in a bind.

Is Kevin’s Natural Foods Worth It?

For me, it’s an easy yes.

But there is one obvious downside: the price.

Kevin’s is more expensive than buying raw chicken or beef and cooking it yourself.

You’re paying for convenience.

That’s also why I tend to stock up when Publix has them on BOGO or buy the larger packages at Costco.

Could I buy chicken breast, make my own sauce, and create something similar for less money?

Absolutely.

In fact, I do that sometimes. More on that below.

But I don’t think that’s necessarily a fair comparison.

I’m not buying Kevin’s for the nights when I have plenty of time and motivation to cook. I’m buying it for the night when everyone needs dinner, I’m exhausted, and takeout suddenly sounds really tempting.

Compared with that option, having a $20-ish (for two of their entrees) refrigerated entrée waiting for me in the fridge can be very worth it.

The Best Kevin’s Natural Foods Flavors I’ve Tried

Another reason I continue buying Kevin’s is the variety.

There are chicken and beef entrées with tons of different sauces, and we’ve tried quite a few over the years.

Here are the ones that stand out.

1. Thai-Style Coconut Chicken

This is the winner in our house.

My husband and I both agree that the Thai-Style Coconut Chicken is our favorite Kevin’s flavor we’ve tried.

The chicken comes in a creamy coconut curry sauce with Thai-inspired spices, and it’s SO good over brown or jasmine rice (I like to mix the two to get the fiber benefits of the brown rice and the flavor of the jasmine) with broccoli.

It genuinely scratches that takeout itch for me.

If you’re trying Kevin’s for the first time, this is the one I’d tell you to start with.

2. Chimichurri Beef

We tried the Chimichurri Beef more recently, and it immediately became another favorite.

It’s made with beef strips and a bright chimichurri sauce with cilantro, lime, garlic, and chilies.

This is also a great example of why I like Kevin’s: you get a ton of flavor without having to marinate, prep, or really cook anything yourself.

3. Teriyaki-Style Chicken

We’ve bought the Teriyaki-Style Chicken several times.

It’s sweeter than some of the other flavors and uses coconut aminos instead of traditional soy sauce, making it soy-free.

Throw this over rice with broccoli and you have one of the easiest homemade-ish takeout meals imaginable.

4. Roasted Garlic Chicken

If curry or Asian-inspired flavors aren’t your thing, the Roasted Garlic Chicken is another good option.

The sauce is creamy and garlicky without requiring you to actually make a cream sauce yourself—which is exactly the kind of cooking shortcut I’m looking for when I buy Kevin’s.

5. Hawaiian-Style Chicken

We’ve also tried the Hawaiian-Style Chicken, which has a sweeter pineapple-based sauce.

My husband and I differ a little on how we’d rank this one versus some of the others, but it’s another flavor we’ve enjoyed.

6. Korean BBQ-Style Beef

We both liked the Korean BBQ-Style Beef, although this one has a little more kick to it.

The beef entrées also tend to be slightly more expensive than the chicken where we shop, so we’ve naturally tried more of the chicken flavors.

If I were telling someone to buy only two Kevin’s products to start, though?

Thai-Style Coconut Chicken and Chimichurri Beef.

Those are my current winners.

Where Can You Buy Kevin’s Natural Foods?

Kevin’s products are sold at grocery stores around the country, although the exact selection varies by store and location.

Here in Florida, I regularly find Kevin’s at both Publix and Costco.

And if Publix puts them on BOGO?

I’m buying four.

Costco also carries larger packages of certain Kevin’s meals. The versions we’ve bought contain separate packages inside, so my husband and I can make the whole thing together or prepare portions separately depending on what we need.

Kevin’s also has a store locator on its website, which is probably the easiest way to see exactly what’s available near you.

One thing to remember with the refrigerated entrées: check the expiration date.

They keep for quite a while unopened, which is part of why I love having one waiting in the fridge, but they obviously don’t last forever.

We have absolutely shoved one into the back of the fridge, forgotten it existed, and discovered it too late.

RIP, Kevin’s.

Now I keep a closer eye on the dates.

You Can Also Buy Kevin’s Sauces Separately

This is another option I love.

We’ve bought boxes of Kevin’s simmer sauces from Costco without the precooked meat.

The box we found included Thai Coconut and Teriyaki sauces, so we bought our own chicken breast, cut it up, cooked it, and added the Kevin’s sauce.

It’s obviously more work than the Heat & Eat entrées, but it’s still incredibly easy—and it can be cheaper.

Especially when chicken breast is BOGO.

Kevin’s also sells individual simmer sauces in flavors like Thai Coconut, Teriyaki, Cilantro Lime, Korean BBQ, Tikka Masala, Honey Garlic, and more.

So if you find a Kevin’s flavor you love but don’t mind cooking the protein yourself, the sauces are another great shortcut.

What About Kevin’s Frozen Meals?

Kevin’s has expanded quite a bit since I first started buying the refrigerated entrées.

They now make individual frozen bowls as well as larger frozen meals that combine the protein, sauce, and vegetables.

The current frozen lineup includes options like Thai-Style Coconut Chicken, Teriyaki-Style Chicken, Korean BBQ-Style Chicken, Butter Chicken, Chicken Burrito Bowls, Orange Chicken, and more.

Some of the frozen bowls even include cauliflower rice and vegetables, making them closer to a complete grab-and-go meal than the refrigerated entrées I usually buy.

I haven’t tried any of the frozen options yet, so I’m not going to pretend I can rank them.

But considering how often Kevin’s saves me on nights I don’t want to cook, you better believe they’re on my list.

I’ll update this review as I try more.

So, Are Kevin’s Meals Worth Buying?

If you love cooking every meal from scratch and meal prep all your food ahead of time, Kevin’s probably isn’t going to be the most economical option.

But that’s not why I buy it.

I buy Kevin’s for real life.

For the night when work ran late.

For when I forgot to plan dinner.

For when I don’t feel like cooking.

For when I’m craving takeout but still want something easy to fit into my nutrition goals.

For when I have approximately seven minutes of effort left in me before I’m officially done for the day.

Add some microwavable rice and a frozen vegetable and I can have a high-protein, genuinely delicious dinner on the table in less time than it would take me to decide what to order.

That’s why Kevin’s has earned a permanent spot in my fridge.

Is it the cheapest dinner option?

No.

Could you make something similar completely from scratch?

Of course.

But convenience foods don’t have to replace home cooking to be useful.

Sometimes they simply make eating well easier.

And around here, that’s a win.

Over to You

Have you tried Kevin’s Natural Foods?

And more importantly: what flavor am I missing?

Because if there’s one better than the Thai-Style Coconut Chicken, I need to know about it.

Kevin’s Natural Foods FAQ

Are Kevin’s Natural Foods meals healthy?

It depends on what “healthy” means for you, but Kevin’s offers several things I personally look for in a convenient meal. Their products are gluten- and soy-free and made without refined sugar, while many products are Paleo- or Keto-certified. Many refrigerated entrées also provide around 20 grams of protein per serving.

Nutrition varies by product, though, so check the label rather than assuming every Kevin’s meal has the same calories, sodium, carbohydrates, or fat.

Are Kevin’s Natural Foods meals gluten-free?

Yes. Kevin’s states that all of its products are gluten-free, with the majority certified gluten-free by the Gluten Intolerance Group.

Are all Kevin’s meals Paleo and Keto?

No. Kevin’s offers many Paleo- and Keto-certified products, but certifications vary by product. Check the package of the specific meal you’re buying if you’re following either diet.

Are Kevin’s meals already cooked?

The meat in Kevin’s refrigerated Heat & Eat entrées is fully cooked using the sous-vide method. You simply heat the meat and finish it with the included sauce according to the package instructions.

Where can I buy Kevin’s Natural Foods?

Kevin’s says its products are available in the refrigerated and frozen sections of more than 20,000 stores nationwide. I personally buy mine at Publix and Costco here in Florida, but selection varies by location. Kevin’s also has an online store locator.

What is the best Kevin’s Natural Foods flavor?

My personal favorite is the Thai-Style Coconut Chicken, followed closely by the Chimichurri Beef. If you’re buying Kevin’s for the first time, those are the two I’d recommend starting with.
